How did Youseum originate? 

Our founder, Koen Derks, was living in The Big Apple when he visited an Instagram museum called The Dream Machine. Astonished by what he saw, Koen quickly came to the conclusion that a concept like this had to be brought to the Netherlands, his home country. He left New York, teamed up with his cousin Joep Heusschen and together they went on a quest to find the perfect location to turn this dream into reality. They eventually discovered an abandoned, nine-story-tall insurance building with a skyline view of the east of Amsterdam. With help from family and friends, Youseum’s first location opened in Amsterdam in 2019. And with succes, because in 2021 Youseum’s second location opened in Westfield Mall of the Netherlands, Leidschendam, followed by a third (and first international) location in 2022 in Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, Stockholm.

Our mission

At Youseum we are on a mission to provide 5-star shareable experiences where YOU can have fun and be creative, while YOU reflect on the world around you! This is our contribution to an all inclusive world where fun and creativity inspire YOU to be YOU. At our location we want everyone to feel free to  be themselves, without being judged by others. 

Our team

To ensure this mission is being achieved, we have a small but rapidly growing team that consists of various departments. First off there are the people in the office, working on for example marketing, communications, expansion and events. Besides employees working in the office, our team also consists of  Heroes at each location, who provide our visitors with an amazing tour to ensure everyone will have the best experience.

What can you expect from your visit?

You will enjoy a tour provided by one of our Heroes. The tour lasts 60 to 90 minutes and takes you through all the colorful spaces. Each room consists of unique art installations that provide you endless photo opportunities. You can take photos using your phone, but you can also make use of our camera system that allows you to download your photos afterwards. Our Heroes will help you to take the prettiest photos! 

Our locations are being visited by people from all over the world which inspires us everyday. We are thankful to have already met so many amazing people and can’t wait to meet many more in the future. Sweden, we are ready for you!
